Hair

Tired face due to midnight cam-whoring; please focus on the hair. :)

I haven't had a good haircut in ... years? SC recommended Revo Studio so I made an appointment to get my hair cut, and possibly to get it dyed as well.

I had my hair cut by Shin, one of the master stylists. The experience was one of its kind - thumbs up from start to finish. I was pleasantly surprised by my haircut, when Shin asked me politely "You might like to put on your glasses" - shoulder-length, layered, light.

I made another appointment to get my hair dyed. Going for the full Monty. :)

Mandara Spa At Renaissance Hotel Kuala Lumpur

We tried the spa sampler - Balinese massage plus facial

Third day in Malaysia: My sisters, C and X, and C's uni friend, went to the Mandara spa at the Renaissance Hotel, Kuala Lumpur. C and her friend have already tried out spa massages before, and told me and X that the massage is so good that 50 minutes of it is not enough.

I was a bit hesitant at first, wasn't too sure about the massage as I was sure I would feel ticklish. I thought I would just get a facial instead. Turned out a facial costs more than a spa sampler - a Balinese massage and a facial. In the end, X and I both went for the spa sampler.

C and her friend decided on the Nirvana massage - a Balinese massage, sauna, foot scrub, and tea ceremony.

While waiting for the ladies to prepare for the massages, we were served cold ginger tea, which was very refreshing. I could have drank more of the tea!

We then went to the spa rooms. X and I were in one room, C and her in another. Our room was dimly lit, with the smell of lemongrass essential oil wafting in the air.

The massage was really good, and left me feeling relaxed and sleepy. By the time the lady finished with the massage and gave me a facial, I was close to lala-land.

Then I heard the lady telling me that the spa sampler has finished... I pictured myself rolling on the floor and banging my fists, saying, "NO!!! I WANT MORE!!!"

Not something I would go for every day, not unless I've got heaps of money to spend, but as a luxury, an escape to paradise, let me be the first to say, "AYE!"

Fifth Day of Chinese New Year in Sydney

I arrived in Sydney this morning to very nice cool weather, a far cry from the blistering heat back home in Petaling Jaya.

Chinese New Year cannot be any quieter than in Sydney, with most of the celebrations concentrated in Chinatown, only 15 minutes' away from where I stay. Whereas I had the sound of Chinese drums and cymbals accompanying the lion dance back home, back at college, I have the banging and clanging of heavy machinery at the construction site right next to the college. Still, I fancy the sounds to be those of Chinese New Year celebrations, to keep my Chinese New Year spirits up. After all, the festive season does not end until after the 15th.

KT bought a nian gao at Chinatown. Tonight, I'll be frying battered nian gao with sweet potato slices, a little treat for us. Can't wait... yum yum... :)

Good Things Come in Small Packages

I finally bought The Body Shop Cheek Blush in Rose. I've been eyeing it for ages ever since it was featured in Real Living August edition. I was surprised that it came in such a small tube, and I now know why; only a minute amount of the gel is needed (i.e., a pin-point amount) for each cheek. I personally prefer this cheek blush over Revlon's Limited Edition Collection Pinch Me Sheer Gel Blush; it was less runny and much easier to apply. The result is oh-so-natural!

Dessert and Nightcap at Una's

I love dining at Una's, a restaurant with a European pub ambience located at the sleepy stretch of Broadway. There is never a want of ambience when I step into Una's; there's usually a crowd, and the music's so European that I can't help feeling as if I'm in a tavern somewhere in charming Europe rather than Sydney.

I went to Una's after choir practice, craving for something sweet, and mildly alcoholic, something to chase away the cold and windy night before I brave the walk back to college.

I've always thought that Irish coffee was Bailey's, and that Irish coffee would be sweet to drink. So when I ordered Irish coffee, I was surprised when the waitress asked me if I wanted sugar in it - I said no.

Oh, bless me for my ignorance in all things alcoholic. The moment I took a sip of the drink, I knew that I have made a grave mistake. It tasted bitter, because of the black coffee, and the whisky burnt my throat. The irony is that I can't drink coffee; it gives me a headache.

Thank goodness for the cream on top, and for the rich caramel choc cake that I ordered. For each sip of Irish coffee, I took a generous bite of caramel choc cake. Even the richness of the cake couldn't quite cover the bitterness of the Irish coffee.

I felt quite stimulated after the drink; I'm not quite sure if it was the coffee or the alcohol. I had a headache - so I knew it had to be the coffee that I responded to, and I expected that I'd have trouble falling asleep.

Well, I found out that Irish coffee is a paradox in itself - a drink with both sedative (whisky) and stimulant (coffee) ingredients, so which of the sensations would a person feel after drinking it? Drowsy, or hyper-active? As for me, I found myself yawning not long after reaching college.

No, I don't think I would be having another Irish coffee for a long while. Unless, of course, if it's Bailey's. ;)

What Big Eyes You Have...

"You've got big eyes, so you'll have lots of space to put them in."

I have an aversion to sticking things into my eyes; I can't even instill eyedrops into my eyes without getting someone to instill them for me.

So when the optometrist put the contact lenses into my eyes, I had to force myself from shutting my eyes, up to the point when she told me to relax the eyes...

After getting them in, it was all smooth-flowing. I couldn't believe it that I got the lenses in to and out of my eyes, not once, but THREE times! (the optometrist wanted me to practise so that we could be sure that the first time I got the lenses out of my eyes wasn't just good luck. :P)

So yes! Now I have a pair of contact lenses to try out for two whole weeks before my next appointment!!! Woohoo...

Wide-eyed doe look here I come...

Highlights of My Life

(I DO NOT have a bald spot!!!!!)

What a double entendre...

I finally decided this morning when I woke up, I am going to get highlights in my hair for the first time in my life ... so I walked down to Broadway, and sat through about 2 hours of half-hair highlighting, washing, rinsing, and blow-drying session.

I now have subtle red highlights ... I am amazed by the result ... subtle yet still there.

Oh yes... I would be getting full-head highlights next. ;)
